Reader: Manchin was bamboozled

This is one of those rare occasions where I get to say “I told you so” and it feels good. Uncle Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer set Manchin up and he took the bait. Reader: Can seniors pay for water rate hike?

The callous disregard for seniors in our community by city officials was more than troubling to read in the Sept. 17 Inter-Mountain article regarding the water hike. It is evident that some of the officials serving on council are far removed from the realities seniors face while trying to live on a fixed income. Their contempt for those that live on a fixed income was palpable in their comments. I want to tell everyone of a program that would help the community in displaying their patriotism and flying American flags sold by a veteran’s organization and made in the USA. The American Legion has a program called Flag Rewards where residents or businesses can order American flags in different sizes from either American Legion Emblem Sales or AmericanLegionflags.com. Reader pens letter to Gov. Justice

Gov. Justice, I watched you on the news and you were saying you don’t think the people in West Virginia should be voting on the abortion law. You said it is the job of the lawmakers in Charleston. You lawmakers got to Charleston on the citizens’ votes. I believe it is a woman’s right to decide what procedures her body goes through. Every woman should be able to make the choice regarding abortion on her own and her doctor’s decision. Could some funds go toward hydrants?

With elections coming up and all this government money, I would like to ask our commission why North Elementary School still has no fire hydrant? I would sure like to see Commissioner Siler in the paper getting new lines and hydrants. I sure hope before all the money’s gone someone gets more hydrants. Kids are the future. David Teter Elkins

School swim teams in need of pools

Mention West Virginia to someone that lives outside of our state, and those individuals may respond with comments such as: hillbillies, moonshine, John Denver’s “Country Roads,” or the beautiful mountain landscape that drapes a good portion of our state.
