Discussing Manchin, a bill and a mural

I would like to comment on a couple things that bother me. In a real-time interview I heard Sen. Manchin tell Hoppy Kercheval on Friday the 12th that he tried to get included in the infrastructure bill a mileage fee or road use fee for electric cars because they contribute no tax for road maintenance but buyers get huge rebates in the thousands of dollars for buying electric. Head’s up: I am an old white man and I do not consider myself a privileged racist. The purpose of this “rant,” if you will, is to express the feelings of many white folk. We are sick of being called a privileged racist simply because we are Caucasian. So it’s deer season again and folks are, predictably, arguing the politics of guns and hunting. That whole argument assumes that hunting is all about killing an innocent animal. But is that true? Recycling event deemed a success

And another successful weekend of recycling thanks to you. The Randolph County Solid Waste Authority held their tire recycling on the Beverly Five-lane. The event started at 8 that morning, but the recyclers were lined up at 7:30 a.m. At 4 p.m., the end of the event, a total of 4,790 tires were collected — six tractor trailers loads. According to one of the coordinators REAP, Randolph County surpassed Monongalia County in tires collected. Hard to believe. Some folks I would like to thank for making this event a big success. Imagine a book so vile and disgusting, school board officials ordered a journalist ejected from a BOE meeting for reading it aloud. This book was found in the school library. As bizarre as it sounds, it happened during a Florida school board meeting after a book titled “Gender Queer” was discovered in an Orange County school library. In Hazard. November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

In October each year, we are surrounded by pink and pink ribbons for Breast Cancer Awareness. The pink ribbon has brought about increased awareness for breast cancer and early screening. However, there is no early screening for pancreatic cancer. November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and the color is purple. I’ve been advocating for pancreatic cancer awareness since October 2007. I can even tell you the exact day, Oct. 4, 2007, the day that my younger brother passed away from pancreatic cancer.
