No more mandates in West Virginia! So, yesterday I saw a briefing from our governor in my news feed. I’ve been trying to ignore things, and trying not to say too much. Saving parts of ‘Rosie’ celebration

Because the major celebration for Rosie the Riveters had to be canceled, elements of the event will move forward with the help of local businesses and agencies. The Inter Mountain has graciously agreed to continue printing the biographies of the Rosies that have been submitted by the Our Town committee and families. Abby Haun and Our Town volunteer Linda Shomo, along with former Rosies and their families, have created a display in the Elkins-Randolph County Library featuring Rosies of the area. Perhaps a couple of you readers will remember the letter I sent in to the Inter-Mountain that was published July 31. I predicted that by the end of August we’d be showing shot cards and wearing masks everywhere and possibly stores would all be caught up in a mandate, posting guards and having the privilege of calling 911 and having you forcibly removed by the local law enforcement officers. To members of our community: This is a personal plea on behalf of all of your health care providers. We are on the cusp of yet another COVID surge — many U.S. hospitals are already there. Many are turning hallways, floors and ambulances into makeshift treatment areas. Here too, our inpatient units and Emergency Departments are filling up quickly.
