Our Town flowers to be collected

ELKINS — The painted tulip flowers for Our Town’s “Sprout Into Spring” celebration will be collected on Saturday at the old Henry G’s Restaurant location on Third Street.

Close to 100 flowers were distributed for the annual Our Town Inc. event that helps beautify the downtown streets of Elkins. Flowers are to be dropped off between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

“Volunteers will begin putting the flowers up during the day on Saturday,” Our Town member Bobbie Trimboli told The Inter-Mountain. “Some will hang from hanging flower brackets on sections of Third Street to Davis Avenue, while some can be observed in windows of businesses on that block.”

All of the flowers will be removed on April 3 and will be sold for $10. Money taken in will go toward future Our Town events.

In conjunction with the “Sprout Into Spring” event, Our Town will be part of the “Welcome Spring Event” that is scheduled to take place at the Seneca Mall on March 26.

The public is invited to view flowers throughout the community and then attend the family oriented event that will be held at the Seneca Mall Atrium from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The “Welcome to Spring” celebration will feature an interactive Children’s Museum along with displays, gifts and activities from the Emma Scott Garden Club, Elkins Tree Board, DNR, WV Extension Service Master Gardeners, Enrika Hofer-McMillon, Guilty Pleasures Sweet Shop, Marion Harless, WV Herd Association, Mountain Heart Child Care Services, and Margaret Bruning.

Door prizes and giveaways will take place during the event, and at the conclusion of the celebration a tree pruning exhibition and grafting workshop will take place at the Kump House.

Our Town is also currently working on decorating some of the empty storefront downtown business to coincide with the spring celebration.
