2024 Pickin’ in Parsons event set

PARSONS — Pickin’ in Parsons returns this month with more than 20 renowned and award-winning musical acts, including Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Sister Sadie, The Malpass Brothers and more.

The award-winning bluegrass festival will run from Tuesday, July 30 to Saturday, Aug. 3 at the banks of the Shavers Fork River at the Five River Campground in Parsons. Craft and food vendors will be set up for attendees throughout the week.

“It’s a family friendly festival,” Jessica Waldo, executive director of the Tucker County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), told The Inter-Mountain. “No alcoholic beverages, so it’s a good time for everyone. What I always try to stress is, it’s a family atmosphere.”

The 2024 Pickin’ in Parsons festival will, according to a press release, feature a “diverse lineup of traditional and contemporary sounds.”

This year’s acts will include Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Sister Sadie, Gibson Brothers, The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys featuring Jim Lauderdale, Johnny Staats & The Delivery Boys, The Grascals, The Malpass Brothers, Lonesome River Band, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Nothin’ Fancy, Leroy Troy, Junior Sisk Band, The Seldom Scene, Volume Five, The Special Consensus, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, Blue Highway, The Price Sisters, Dave Adkins Band, No Joke Jimmy’s, Darren Nicholson Band, Little Roy & Lizzy Show, Ralph Stanley II & The Clinch Mountain Boys, Authentic Unlimited and Caroline & New Company.

Waldo said many of the shows repeat throughout the week, meaning there will be several opportunities for attendees to catch any performances they might have missed.

Several of the artists performing this year are members of the Grand Ole Opry, including Rhonda Vincent and The Malpass Brothers. Many of the performers are International Bluegrass Music Award winners, such as three-time IBMA Vocal Group of the Year award winners Sister Sadie and Authentic Unlimited’s Jesse Brock, who is a two-time IBMA Mandolin Player of The Year award winner.

“Pickin’ in Parsons is a major cultural event for Tucker County,” Waldo said in a press release. “The festival attracts thousands of visitors each year, letting them experience the best of music and nature in a truly unforgettable setting.”

Festival attendees will be able to camp out at the Five River Campground, which “provides the perfect backdrop for this immersive bluegrass experience,” Waldo said. The campside has been ranked as the third-best campground in the southeast region by The Dyrt, a campsite booking and review site.

The Five River Campground offers amenities and is located near areas for swimming, kayaking, hiking and biking. Campers can enjoy campfires and jam sessions throughout the festival. A free shuttle service is also provided to transport attendees to and from local lodging facilities.
