Council member’s help appreciated

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to City Council member Erika Plishka. Last week, I drove my 93-year-old father from Charlottesville, Virginia, to visit his 96-year-old brother in Waverly, Ohio. On the way, my dad wanted to visit the gravesites of his grandfather, mother, father, brother and sister at Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins. My dad was pretty sure he knew where the graves were located. Political partisanship our biggest problem?

Politicians who love jagged-edge partisanship and will not lower the temperature of today’s violent discourse do not understand the Constitution, are unfamiliar with the spirit of God, do not truly have the interests of their own children and grandchildren in mind, and are the biggest part of the political problem in America. Rabid partisanship was called “faction” by our nation’s founders, who deeply abhorred it. My first intention was to write a letter denouncing the Republican Convention’s excluding of anti-abortion and traditional marriage language from their platform. However, since the events of Saturday, July 13, the letter’s topic has changed dramatically. Now, I would still prefer anti-abortion and traditional marriage landscape listed as part of the platform. Reader: Officer should be officially honored

On Monday, June 24, hundreds of people lined the route from the Randolph Funeral Home and Crematory through the center of Elkins and on to Mabie to express their gratitude and respect for the life of Officer Ramon Goux. Those who wanted to honor Officer Goux stood along the streets for over an hour after the procession was set to move through Elkins and waited for the funeral rites to conclude so that they could pay their respects to him.
