Now that a couple of weeks have passed, I thought it might be appropriate to look at what did and didn’t happen (thank goodness) in this year’s iteration of the West Virginia Legislature. Comparing plans for economic growth

In my letter to the editor two weeks ago, I outlined the difference between Elkins and the county’s reasons for and against annexation.  This week, I will highlight the differences between each governmental entity and their plans. Progress is not free or cheap. Looking at alternate Corridor H route

In a recent op-ed piece in The Inter-Mountain, Corridor H Authority Chairman Robbie Morris assures us that WVDOH has resolved the problem of “splitting the towns,” by sinking the ROPA under Route 32, rather than over it.  But let’s be clear: Whether a massive four-lane freeway goes over or under Route 32, it won’t matter. Dogwalker disgusted by filth left behind

One of the highlights of my retirement has been a daily walk with my neighbor’s dog, Nevaeh. The walks started well over a decade ago and I quickly learned to carry small plastic bags to collect her “tootsie rolls” so as not to leave them in someone’s yard. Our walks stopped over the Christmas and New Year holidays but they resumed recently for a couple of days, which brings me to the point of this letter. Reader reacting to annexation discussion

Recently I read the article in the paper on Feb. 7 about the City of Elkins and Randolph County sparring over annexation. After carefully reading the article and doing my own research, the annexation of the stores along the Beverly Five-Lane is in the best interest of the county as a whole.  It is unfortunate that sound bites and divisive rhetoric are being thrown around so cavalierly over the betterment of our community. Fix our problems first

International law requires asylum seekers to seek refuge in the next adjacent country. If you travel through several countries to get to a place you prefer, you are simply moving and are no longer protected by asylum laws and should not be allowed into our country without filing the proper immigration paperwork and waiting to be accepted in. Can someone please explain why we are accepting people from China, El Salvador, India,Russia and various African countries into our country while they await an asylum hearing that could take up to three years or more do to the immense backlog ...
