Meaning of Pledge of Allegiance broken down

The State of West Virginia Civil Air Patrol Chaplain wrote this. I was so moved by it I wanted to share with all. “It’s more than just a piece of cloth. “Just a few weeks ago, at our 2024 West Virginia Wing - Civil Air Patrol Encampment, I witnessed two of our dedicated cadets tenderly handle our American flag. I looked at this precious piece of cloth made up of three predominate colors. Is it just cloth and is it to be burned, mutilated or treated with disrespect? I think not. “For over 200 years, millions of our flags have been displayed and carried with great honor. ...

Reader down on Democratic Party

Attention readers, especially Randolph Countians. The lies, deceit and propaganda that has infected and destroyed all the trust and credibility in our national leadership has spread to our local communities and supplanted itself in the local Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee. Don’t believe me? Read the letter to the editor in the June 15 edition of The Inter-Mountain submitted by Cindy Stemple, chair of the committee. In the first paragraph Stemple wastes no ink in blaming the Republican Party for everything wrong in this nation. She moves on to subtle hints that ...

Voters urged to act in ‘pivotal moment’

As your local Democratic leader, I stand before you at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. At this time the very foundation of our freedom and democracy is under threat. Today, more than ever, we must unite in defense of our cherished principles, for they are being challenged across our country and the world. The threats we face are serious, with authoritarianism casting a dark shadow over our democratic institutions. We can’t stand on the sidelines but must confront this existential threat with unwavering resolve. Much of what is happening now echoes events in 1930’s ...

Who are you going to vote for this year?

Who are you going to vote for? Republicans who chant “Make America Great Again”or Democrats who chant “death to America?” Democrats have an ace in the hole in their relentless war on the Constitution: Conservative America’s reverence for the concept of the rule of the law. Only their steadfast commitment to this traditional ideal explains why conservatives are allowing Democrats to flagrantly corrupt our judicial system to destroy their opponents and protect themselves. For all their huffing and puffing, conservatives have effectively taken a l”et the system play itself ...

Candidate: Butker was wrong about women

We can decide for ourselves. After seeing the syndicated column by Rich Lowry in the May 21st paper, I thought I would respond — and no, Butker was not right about men and women, not even close. Many Catholics, including the sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, who put out a statement regarding the speech, do not agree with Butker’s divisive and sexist comments.  Women do not need Butker, or anyone else for that matter, telling them how and where they will find fulfillment or vocation in their lives. Women are fully capable of defining for themselves what brings them joy and ...

First Conservation Banquet a success

Recently, the Mountaineer Chapter of Izaak Walton League of America held their first Conservation Banquet at the Beverly Fire Hall. The evening was a remarkable success with over 200 people attending. The chapter would like to recognize the many sponsors, individuals and groups that made this possible. The dinner for the evening was delicious and well prepared by the BVFD Ladies Auxiliary. Many thanks to Joyce Harper who spent many hours preparing the meal, along with the help of other members Tina Marstiller, Rhonda Pritt, Melody Jones, Christin Jones and Carolyn Stalnaker. Also, ...
