Syndicated column draws reaction

We were visiting West Virginia and I read a column in your newspaper about Sen. Tim Scott. It was written by someone named Mona Charen and the column was not very nice, to say the least. Lies are often believed, until the truth is told. Tim Scott is my senator, and no part of him is a sniveling coward. Sen. Scott endorses school vouchers — which help everyone, including the poor. The Republicans did not take a dark turn with President Trump as he is one of our best presidents. Kyle Rittenhouse is not a pin-up for Republicans, but a young man who acted in ...

Reader grateful for ‘sunshine’ on topic

Thanks for clarifying Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez’s curious post-election obsession with his political opponent and neighbor for those who are not online. It helps educate those who may not recognize that this delegate is a curious fit for a town which I know to welcome every voice and persuasion for the common good. The sunshine on this moment will, I hope, begin more dialogue, more education, more inclusion and a stronger community down the road. Carol Denney Elkins

Reader: ‘Socialist’ educators are failing

Driving a car seems effortless to most of us. Our eyes, hands, and feet work together seamlessly, automatically, without conscious thought. But we first had to learn the basics of driving. Remember your driving lessons? You were taught how to turn the steering wheel, where the gas and brake pedal was, how to stay in your lane, turn signals and stop signs, use of mirrors, keeping to speed limits, looking ahead. All these basics took time and practice to learn. Now, most of us who have been driving for many years, take these basics for granted. We drive “automatically” and with ...

Recycling event deemed a success

The annual Randolph County Solid Waste Authority Electronics Recycling Event, held on June 3, was a success. A total of 214 residents of Randolph County helped keep the hills andhollows clean by disposing of 21,065 pounds of electronics. This would not have been possible without the help of some folks. First to Peggy Young-Ross. Without your mighty pen this could not have taken place. Keep your pen ready, more to come. To Chris Lee of the Elkins Parks and Recreation. Thank you for the use of the Phil Gainer Center parking lot. A thanks to John Lewis of Tri-State ...

Reader: America under mind control

I was born in 1942 and brought up to believe in right and wrong — no matter your nationality, politics, religion, or color of your skin. Sadly, that seems to be a thing of the past. The Communist Party has approximately 100 years experience over the American people at controlling the masses. In World War II, it was called brain washing. Today it is called mind control. American news today is down to 5%. Half of the American people don’t seem to care or simply don’t understand. NewsMax is all I watch on TV. B.S. has changed to Bidenrhea. Check the Communist Manifesto! It ...

Should officials approve pipeline?

Exporting U.S natural gas will raise ratepayer prices exponentially, yet most U.S. natural gas is slated for export. The Mountain Valley Pipeline, for example, will provide no gas outlets in West Virginia and only one in Virginia! It plans, instead, to connect to the Transco pipeline going to Gulf Coast LNG-export terminals. Nevertheless, in a letter urging Biden to approve a four-year extension for the Mountain Valley Pipeline, heavily fossil-fuel-invested WV politicians, Joe Manchin and Shelly Moore Capito state, “It is imperative that FERC works to accelerate the development of ...
