Lady Mountain Lions move to No. 1
EHS boys seventh entering tonight’s clash with top-ranked Senior; Tucker boys, PB girls remain in top 10
CHARLESTON — The undefeated Tucker County girls basketball team is the new No. 1 in this week’s Associated Press poll released on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Mountain Lions (8-0) replaced Cameron (6-3) atop the Class A rankings.
Tucker County notched a pair of road wins over ranked teams last week, defeating No. 8 Gilmer County and then Class AA, No. 8 Petersburg, which is now ninth.
The Lady Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday at Tygarts Valley.
In Class AAA, Philip Barbour (4-3) remained eighth and Elkins is among those receiving votes.
The Lady Colts visit No. 3 North Marion on Wednesday, while the Lady Tigers next play at Fairmont Senior on the same evening.
Wheeling Park (AAAA), Wayne (AAA) and Wyoming East (AA) maintained their top spots in their respective classes.
Elkins, which is now seventh in Class AAA, will host now top-ranked Fairmont Senior at 7:30 p.m. this evening for a Big 10 Conference battle.
The Tigers are 6-3 on the season.
In Class A, Tucker County (4-2) held on to the second spot behind James Monroe, while Morgantown and Bluefield remained atop the Class AAAA and AA polls, respectively.
The Mountain Lions entertain Mountain Ridge (Md.) this evening and then face top-ranked James Monroe Friday in the Tyler Consolidated tourney.
Pendleton County fell on spot to sixth in Class A.
