Senators outlast Battlers

D&E women too much for AB

ELKINS — Sam Rolle IV scored 25 points, including the go-ahead basket in the second overtime, as Davis & Elkins outlasted Alderson Broaddus 100-98 Wednesday night in Mountain East Conference play at the McDonnell Center.

Rolle’s layup with 1:29 left in the second OT gave the Senators a 94-93 lead. Rolle added two free throws and Jordan Alexander was 4 for 4 from the charity stripe over the final :48 to allow the hosts to pull away.

The Battlers had battled back from a 13-point second-half deficit to tie the game at 76-76 on Jalen Knott’s 3-pointer with :04 left in regulation and force the first overtime.

AB then took an 87-84 lead with 26 seconds left in the first extra session on Jon King’s layup before Alexander delivered a trey for the Senators on the other end to send the game to the second OT.

Alexander added 21 points and Evan Busby 12 for D&E (12-9, 6-9 MEC).

Knott fired in 29 points, including seven 3-pointers for the Battlers (7-13, 5-10). King added 24 points and 10 rebounds, Sirr Hughes 12 points and Jalen Collins 10 points.

D&E visits Notre Dame College on Saturday, while AB entertains West Virginia Wesleyan. Both games start at 4 p.m.

Women’s game

D&E 93, AB 79

ELKINS — Taylor Smith and Ellie Wilkerson combined for 46 points to power Davis & Elkins to a 93-79 win over Alderson Broaddus Wednesday evening in MEC play inside the McDonnell Center.

Smith fired in 24 points and Wilkerson added 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Senators (5-14, 5-10 MEC).

Kaylee Milburn chipped in 14 points and Marissa Berlin 11 off the bench.

Cassandra Smith and Hannah Taylor had 20 points apiece for the Lady Battlers, who fell to 4-16, 3-12 MEC).

Iyahnna Williams added 14 points and Londaisha Smith 13 in the setback.
