Shaffer pitches Lady Mountain Lions past Pendleton
FRANKLIN — Paige Shaffer tossed a two-hitter as fourth-seed Tucker County stayed alive in Class A, Region II, Section 1 play with a 9-0 win over No. 3 Pendleton County on Saturday.
The Lady Mountain Lions (12-13) will host East Hardy today in an elimination game.
Shaffer fanned six and walked three in going all five innings.
Corrina Lipscomb belted a two-run homer in the first inning for Tucker County, while Addie Hicks finished with two hits and an RBI and Kate Simmons and Shaffer each drove in a run.
Katelyn Hedrick and Nataley Hedrick had the lone hits for the Lady Wildcats, who were eliminated.
Ally Vance took the loss in going the distance, allowing nine hits, four earned runs and striking out three.
East Hardy claimed a 6-5 win over Tucker County in the first game of sectional play.
Today’s winner will face the loser of today’s game between No. 3 Moorefield and top-seed Petersburg
In other action today, Buckhannon-Upshur, which defeated Bridgeport, 15-3, on Friday, travels to top-seed University in Class AAA, Region I, Section 2 play and No. 2 Philip Barbour ventures to top-seed Lincoln today in a Class AA, Region II, Section 1 winner’s bracket contest. Elkins was eliminated by Liberty, 13-0, on Friday.
In Class A, Region II, Section 2 play, Tygarts Valley was eliminated by Clay-Battelle, 13-7, on Friday.
