BRIDGEPORT — The Tygart Valley All-Stars begin 10-12-year-old state tournament play today at The Bridge Sports Complex.

Tygart Valley captured the District 8 title in dominating fashion, outscoring its three opponents by a count of 34-3 and posting shutout victories over Summersville and Pocahontas County.

Competing in the Herd Bracket, TV will face Fairmont, the District 5 runner-up , at 5:30 p.m. today on Field 4.

The Tygart Valley team includes Cooper Markley, Austin George, Corban Oldaker, Luke Wamsley, Brentley Watson, Jacob Riddle, Zayden Defibaugh, Jace Blackburn, Bentlee Johns, Logan Shreve, Remington Warner and Tyler McAtee.

James Markley is the manager and Tommy Oldaker and Mark Watson serve as coaches.

In today’s other Herd Bracket contests, District 2 runner-up Logan meets District 1 champion Huntington at 3:30 p.m (Field 4) and District 4 champion Sophia faces District 6 champion Martinsburg at 7:30 p.m. (Field 4).

Mountaineer Bracket games on tap for today include District 8 runner-up Clay County vs. District 1 runner-up Ona-Milton at 3:30 p.m (Field 2), District 3 champion Hurricane vs. District 4 runner-up Central Greenbrier at 5:30 p.m. (Field 2) and District 6 runner-up Moorefield vs. District 2 champion Chapmanville at 7:30 p.m. (Field 2).

District 5 champion Bridgeport (Mountaineer Bracket) and Elk District (Herd Division) received first-round byes.

The double-elimination tournament continues through the championship game set for July 19.
