EHS swim teams continue strong campaigns

ELKINS — The Elkins High School swim teams continued their strong seasons with wins over Grafton and Charleston Catholic Wednesday evening at George A. Myles Pool on the Davis & Elkins College campus.

The Lady Tigers posted a 121-15 win over Grafton and a 118-24 decision over Charleston Catholic.

The EHS boys defeated Grafton, 85-9, and Catholic by a count of 87-13.

Rachel Shryock (200 freestyle, 2:07.85; 100 freestyle, 57.61) and Emma Ujvagi (100 butterfly, 1:09.15; 100 breaststroke, 1:17.58) each won two events to pace the Lady Tigers, while Emily Durst (200 IM, 2:40.58), Lilly Anger (50 freestyle, 26.25), Sophia Hornick (100 backstroke, 1:16.55) and Lilly Irons (500 freestyle, 5:55.40) each placed first.

Shryock, Ujvagi, Irons and Anger claimed the 200 medley relay (2:20.17) and 200 freestyle relay (1:50.36).

The team of Leah Ours, Raighan Carte, Hornick and Durst swam to first in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 4:29.27.

Isaac Anger and Andres Masten each won two events for the EHS boys.

Anger claimed the 50 freestyle (22.23) and 100 freestyle (51.18) and Masten the 100 butterfly (1:04.97) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.31).

They teamed with Brian Jones and Ashton White to win the 200 medley relay with an effort of 1:58.12 and the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.32).

Bobby Valentine won the 200 freestyle (2:29.44) and Kyle Warner the 200 IM (3:09.17). They joined Briar Higgins and Jones to claim the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 5:40.87.

Elkins returns to action next Wednesday at home against East Fairmont at 6:30 p.m.
