Senior fires in career-high 21 in 56-45 victory

ELKINS — The hot shooting from Brock Holland propelled Elkins to a 56-45 win over Lincoln Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference play at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

Holland fired in a career-high 21 points, including draining six 3-pointers in the second half to help the Tigers pull away.

The game was tied 8-8 after one quarter and Elkins used five straight points from Lucas D’Angelo late in the second quarter to take a 24-19 lead into the intermission.

D’Angelo finished with 11 points off the bench.

Holland then caught fire in the third quarter, hitting three of his treys on the night as the Tigers outscored the Cougars, 21-12, to take a 45-31 cushion into the third.

The senior added three more from beyond the arc in the final frame.

“It was definitely good to get a win at home against a sectional opponent, we needed it, especially for our confidence offensively,” EHS coach Amrit Rayfield said.

The Cougars, who entered the game on a three-game win streak, were led by Nate Swiger with a game-high 24 points. They are now 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Big 10 play.

The Tigers 1-4, 1-2 Big 10) travel to Class AAA, No. 2 Shady Spring at 7:30 p.m. Friday and remain the road Saturday afternoon against PikeView.
