PHILIPPI — Barbara Smith, local author of numerous books set in and about West Virginia and West Virginians, recently presented a copy of her newest novel, “Wing It,” to the Philippi Public Library.

Library Director Judy Larry, said that the author has donated other writings for the library’s collection as well.

Smith’s books are still in print and will be available for purchase at a special book-signing event scheduled from 4 until 5:30 p.m. at the Philippi library on Tuesday, June 11, Larry said.

Smith describes “Wing It” as purely fiction and “the most fun I’ve ever had with a story. It was hard writing it,” she said. “The situation was certainly unique. The characters have all arrived in heaven and have become members of a club that is trying to correct various problems back down on earth. Thus, they are ‘winging it’ as they travel back and forth to address ‘earthy’ situations that warrant their attention,” she said.

Copies of “Wing It” and a number of other of Smith’s books, which include local history, poetry and fiction, are currently available at the Garden Market on South Main Street in Philippi. They can also be secured by calling the author at 304-457-3038.
