Gasoline pumps removed from Beverly service station

BEVERLY — Customers of a well-known area service station may have noticed changes to the storefront.

Throughout the day March 25, crews worked to remove gasoline pumps from Bobbie’s Service Station in Beverly.

Bobbie Smith, owner of the station, said she plans to continue to “spoil” her customers although she will no longer offer gasoline as a service.

“I love my customers,” she said. “I’m still going to cook them food and help them decorate their homes.”

This summer will mark the station’s 40th year of service to the town of Beverly and surrounding communities.

Smith said customer favorites will still be available, including homemade goodies and primitive decorations.

“The favorites are the pepperoni rolls, hotdogs, chicken salad and my peanut butter candy. … Almost everything we make is homemade,” she said.

“When they come in here and say they’d like to have my chocolate cake, in just a day or two, I’ll make that chocolate cake. I spoil them, that’s what we’ve always said — we love to spoil our customers.”

Smith noted cooking and decorating are two of her passions.

“I love cooking for people, that’s my thing. … The primitives and the food are my passions — I love to cook and serve people,” she added. “It pleases me when people come in here and want something specific and I’m able to provide it for them, it kind of warms my heart.”

The removal of gas pumps from Bobbie’s marks the end of gasoline services within the official town limits of Beverly.

She said the removal of the gas pumps will be a “semi retirement” that will allow her to spend more time with her grandkids.

“I think God said, ‘It’s about time, woman,'” she said. “I really appreciate the loyalty that my customers have given me — some of them have been with me for 40 years. It says a lot about them for putting up with me all of these years.”

Going forward, Bobbie’s will be closed on Sundays.

“It will still be the crazy atmosphere inside but with more parking,” Smith joked in a post on the Bobbie’s Facebook page.
