TVHS girls cruise

MILL CREEK — Abby Harris poured in 19 points and grabbed six rebounds to help lead Tygarts Valley to a 54-42 win over South Harrison Saturday in Mason-Dixon Conference play.

Abby Lanham added 12 points and six assists for the Lady Bulldogs, who led 32-21 at intermission. The Lady Hawks got back in the game with a 15-5 scoring edge in the third stanza which cut the deficit to 37-36.

Tygarts Valley, which improved to 8-3 with the win, outscored the visitors 17-6 in the final quarter to pull away for the win.

“We came out and got off to a really good start,” said Tygarts Valley coach Nancy Lewis. “We were able to get a lot of kids in the game, which is a plus because of all the cancellations we’ve had.”

Senior Courtney Haddix chipped in with nine points and four steals for the Lady Bulldogs, while Tatum Wamsley finished with seven points and a game-high eight boards.

Kylie Saltis led South Harrison with 18 points. Jenna Montgomery followed with 10.

The Tygarts Valley junior varsity team rolled to a 73-24 victory in earlier action Saturday. Claire Smith scored 23 points in the win.

The Lady Bulldogs will entertain Elkins tonight for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
