ELKINS — Elliot White fired in 28 points to help pace Elkins to a 73-58 victory over rival Buckhannon-Upshur Saturday night in front of a packed house at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Tigers, who improved to 10-4 on the season with their fifth consecutive win, fired out of the gates with 7-0 run to start the contest and held a 19-12 advantage after one quarter of play.

“What a great atmosphere for a high school basketball game,” Elkins coach Amrit Rayfield said. “The crowd was a big part of us getting out to a good start and capturing a great win over one of our rivals.”

Elkins used an 18-13 scoring edge in the second stanza to push the lead to 37-25 at intermission. White had 14 of his game-high points in the second quarter alone.

“Elliot made plays on the offense end all night,” said Rayfield.

“He’s really became an all-around great basketball player.”

Donovan Wiles and Brayden Davis added 17 points each for the Tigers. Wiles also had six caroms and three assists.

“We’ve been able to generate offense with good defensive play,” Rayfield said. “We’re not only scoring points, but holding teams down on the defensive end as well.”

Zack White led the Buccaneers (6-6) with 15 points. Dawson Lilly followed with nine points, while Ryan Hurst, Mason Hyre and Brayden Cutlip contributed with eight apiece.

Buckhannon-Upshur will return to action Thursday at Philip Barbour for another conference clash.

Elkins will hit the road for a pair of Big 10 contests, beginning with Lewis County on Tuesday. The Tigers will then play at Bridgeport on Thursday.
