Tigers rally from early deficit to beat Vikings in nine innings

ELKINS – Elkins overcame an early deficit to outlast Petersburg 5-4 in nine innings Friday night at Elkins High School/Post 29 Field.

The Tigers, who have won six straight games and are now 7-3, trailed 4-0 after the first inning but didn’t allow another run the remainder of the game.

Elkins scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth when Remington Stanley raced home on a wild pitch.

Jeremy Cogar started and went the first six innings for the Tigers.

Hunter Mouse pitched two innings of relief and Read Schumacher earned the win with a scoreless ninth frame.

Elkins will return to action Monday at home against North Marion for a 5 p.m. Big 10 Conference encounter, while Petersburg is slated to host Southern (Md.) today at 1 p.m.

B-U 10, North Marion 1

RACHEL – Logan Bailey knocked in three runs to power Buckhannon-Upshur to a 10-1 Big 10 Conference win over North Marion on Thursday.

Casey Hamner, Alek Seech and Ryan Smith added two RBIs each for the Bucs.

Andrew Herron went five innings in relief to earn the win, allowing no runs on two hits and fanning five.

B-U (3-5) is scheduled to visit Grafton at 5 p.m. Monday.

Prep softball

Lady Tigers drop twin bill

ELKINS – The Elkins High School softball team dropped a Big 10 Conference doubleheader to Lincoln Thursday night at Elkins Middle School.

The Lady Tigers lost the opening game, 17-5, and fell in the nightcap by an 8-7 count.

Courtney Ramage drove in five runs and collected three hits to power the Lady Cougars to the win in the lidlifter.

Dacey Arbogast took the loss for EHS, working five innings and striking out six.

Kylee Cable worked the final inning.

Allison Smith, Baylee Shiflett and Arbogast each had two hits for the Lady Tigers in the second game.

Haley Mahoney added an RBI

Arbogast went 4 2/3 innings and fanned four for Elkins in the setback, while Cable went the final 1 1/3 inning.

Shadee Hawkins drove in two runs for Lincoln (6-1), while Ramage went six innings to earn the win on the mound.

The Lady Tigers (3-3) will remain home at 1 p.m. today to face Petersburg.

B-U 6, North Marion 3

RACHEL – Alli Robinson cracked two homers and finished with three RBIs as Buckhannon-Upshur claimed a 6-3 win over North Marion Thursday in Big 10 Conference play.

Ciara Melton and Robin Ball added two hits apiece for the Lady Bucs, while Hayden Peters and Kayli Curry added RBIs.

Alyssa Rohr went all seven innings to earn the win, surrendering three runs on five hits, striking out one and walking one.

B-U is slated to entertain Lincoln at 1 p.m. today.
