Reader: ‘Do what the officer says’

I have a simple solution to most of the riots and social unrest going on in our country. My simple motto is “Do what the cop says.” There would be no shootings, strangulations or beatings by the police if people simply listened to directions. Of course you are still going to have a small percentage of bad cops, and we need a process to weed them out. More minorities need to join the force so that they can affect change from within, but most don’t want a job where they are reviled by the people they are trying to protect. Is it too much to ask that you simply comply with ...

Veteran upset by alleged comments

I served my country 8 1/2 years in the U.S. Army, 12 1/2 months in Vietnam, and I was proud to do so. Until now. When we have a president who says those who served this great country of ours are useless and losers, I can no longer call him a president, or even a man. To call those who lost their lives or were wounded losers so someone like him can dodge the draft. He is just a coward, who has no respect for any one, even his own family. To put John McCain down like he did was a shame, but to do this and say such things, shows he is not fit to be president. If any military or ...

Pandemic inspires many questions

As new information comes out, it is revealed more and more that Trump actually knew the full severity of what this virus would play on our country, our lives, our very way of living. He just chose to not care. He just chose to believe that it would only affect Democrat states and he could put all of the blame on them. Trump intentionally let this virus run rampant because he thought it would do him some good in the polls! And the Republican Senators, including our very own Sen. Capito, knew what he was capable of, that he was utterly incapable of handling this crisis, and yet they ...

Election a wake-up call for America?

America, here’s your wake-up call. I’ve seen America at her best, and now her worst, but if Joe Biden ends up as president, you’re going to see how low the greatest nation on earth can sink. Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago and several other Democrat-controlled cities are a barometer for what we can expect under Joe Biden’s administration. In 1974, Bachman–Turner Overdrive released their “Not Fragile” album which included their hit single, “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet.” This single could be the theme song for Joe Biden’s campaign for a socialist America. The song ...

Keep going during times of difficulty

September is Suicide Prevention Month and it’s important that we are there for each other and take steps to prevent suicide. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s theme for the month is to #KeepGoing, by taking simple actions to safeguard our mental health and save lives. From learning the warning signs for suicide and what to do if you are worried someone is struggling, to bringing education programs to your community, we can all learn new ways to help each other save lives. One action I’m taking is to urge my public officials to prioritize suicide prevention and ...

Scarecrow Days to beautify downtown

Dear citizens and business owners of Elkins and surrounding areas: My name is Bobbi Trimboli and I have been a lifelong resident of Elkins. I have always valued this area and those who reside within our mountain valley. I believe that small communities and those who live within them survive by working together for the greater good. Four years ago one of our creative talents, Doug Starcher, brought to us the idea of having a scarecrow display throughout downtown Elkins to welcome autumn, one of our most colorful and beautiful seasons. Scarecrows would be designed by business owners, ...
