Semi-pro football kicks off in Barbour today

Hello from Barbour County. Until recently, the weather has been dry. I hope you all have had a chance to get the hay in.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Keaton McDermott, a recent graduate of Philip Barbour High School who was tragically killed in a car accident last weekend.

Appalachian Thunder will be having a home football game at 3 p.m. today, June 29 vs. WV Leviathan. Kickoff will be at 3 p.m. Come out and support our home semi-pro team.

There will be a “Kick Back and Cruise” car show today, June 29 from noon until 3 p.m. at Kick Back and Camp on the Audra Road. in Belington. Admission will be $2 per person, with no cost to campers. There will be food, raffles, and prizes. Call 304-903-4161 for questions.

To round out this busy day, Barbour County Community Independence Day Celebration will also take place, June 29 at the Barbour County Fairgrounds. This will consist of vendors, ATV races, yard games, music, and food. The evening will end with a fireworks demonstration at dusk.

Belington Public Library will be having a Summer Raffle on July 8. Tickets are available for $1 a piece or 6 for $5. You do not need to be present to win. Stop by the library to get your tickets.

There will be a food distribution at Philippi Middle School on July 10 from 11:00 am – 12:15 pm for all Barbour County children under the age of 18. Stop by and grab some nutritious food to help feed your children this summer.

The Hoppers Gospel music group will be at Battler’s Knob on July 19. General admission is $25 and VIP seating is $30. It’s sure to be a good time for all!
