Corn Roast is Calling
Annual Elkins High School band fundraiser set
The Elkins community is in motion as band parents prepare to get hot coals firing in our City Park and bushels of corn purchased for roasting on Saturday, Aug. 24.
This year, 83 students will march across Randolph Avenue to begin their performances for the school year and we hope residents will mark their calendars and have their appetites prepared.
This activity has taken place for many decades. Most are aware that shortly after noon, platefuls of food will be ready for them to join serving lines. Annually, alumni will greet one another and share the meal. As well as being a needed donator for the band, it might be Elkins’ best weekend outing. Who would want to miss it?
The photos displayed with today’s article were taken at last year’s gathering and it is hoped it will encourage fans to make plans early to attend. Included as performers in addition to the Tiger Band will be Elkins Junior High School’s Band. Led once more by long-time conductor, Jason Baker, area residents understand why the local band program sparkles. Our students are trained well in early years and are simply dynamic by the time Seth Blake stirs them into action and sound as High School musicians.
So, mark this memorable day on calendars and plan your own march to Elkins City Park. Join the sweet serenade and demonstrate your school spirit. It’s an Elkins tradition we want to preserve.
