Identity of missing kayaker released
AUDRA — Officials have released the identity of the female kayaker who has been missing since Sunday and is believed to have drowned on the Middle Fork River.
According to information from the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, the kayaker has been identified as Jamie L. Gray, 41, of Hacker Valley, W.Va.
Gray was reported to be missing at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon after setting out in a party of 10 experienced kayakers.
According to communications from the Barbour County 911 Center, several local fire departments responded to a staging area at Audra State Park to assist with the search. Belington, Bridgeport, Buckhannon, Elkins and Junior fire departments were among those on scene. Law enforcement officials and members of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources were also on scene. Divers from Upshur County also responded to assist with the search.
