Upshur’s second COVID-related death reported

BUCKHANNON — Upshur County’s second COVID-19-related death was reported Thursday.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed Thursday that a 77-year-old male was the second death in Upshur County

Also on Thursday, Upshur County was downgraded to green on the state Department of Health & Human Resources COVID-19 County Alert System color-coded map.

The Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department reported 44 active cases within the county on Thursday, down from 55 on Tuesday afternoon.

Randolph County was downgraded to green on Wednesday on the state map. Both Randolph and Upshur had been listed as orange last week, and then were downgraded to gold on Monday.

The Randolph-Elkins Health Department reported 56 active cases in the county on Thursday afternoon, down from 63 on Wednesday.

Both Randolph and Upshur counties were listed as orange on the updated West Virginia Department of Education’s color-coded COVID-19 map Saturday, meaning both county school systems will operate through remote learning this week.
