Registration for multiple MSFF events is open now

ELKINS — With less than a month before the official start of the 86th Mountain State Forest Festival, multiple MSFF events — including several new events — are still open for registration, officials said.

This year’s MSFF theme is “Timeless Traditions.” The Forest Festival will take place Sept. 28 through Oct. 6.

A new event for this year’s festival is the Tennis, Pickleball & Racquetball Tournament. The MSFF has previously hosted a Tennis Tournament but is new to pickleball and racquetball.

Check-in for the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. near the pickleball courts at Elkins City Park on Saturday, Sept. 7. The last day to register is Thursday, Sept. 5.

Each event has singles, doubles, and mixed doubles play. Players can register for multiple events. There is a cost for registration. Awards are distributed within four age bands. For more details, visit www.forestfestival.com.

MSFF officials said they are excited to bring back the Poker Run. The motorcycle event has not been held since 2019. This year’s ride will be 140 miles, with stops in Buckhannon, Philippi, Thomas and Elkins.

Bikes will start and end at Beverly Fire Hall on Saturday, Sept. 14. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and will run through 10:30 a.m. The first bike out will leave at 10:30 a.m. and head toward Buckhannon. The last bike in will be at the Fire Hall at 3:30 p.m.

There is a per-bike registration, which includes play, post-ride dinner, and a T-shirt. A total of $600 in prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third Best Hands, as well as a Worst Hand winner. The 2024 Poker Run is presented by Siler Cycle and Automotive, Inc.

Registration is open for the MSFF Bass Fishing Classic, and rules and regulations are available at www.forestfestival.com. Two-person teams will compete on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 6 a.m. Boats will launch at safe light from the Scott Ford Boat Ramp on the Tygart Valley River.

The weigh-in will begin at 3 a.m.. An average of $600 in prize money is awarded to first, second and third place, as well as Lunker. There is a per-boat cost for registration.

The annual MSFF Cornhole Tournament will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Summit Church Lot on Martin Street in downtown Elkins. Dawgpound Cornhole will coordinate the event, along with the MSFF. Optimum and Sheetz of Elkins are sponsors of the event.

Starting at $3.92/week.
