Vincent sets state record, 200 freestyle relay team places first

MORGANTOWN — Buckhannon-Upshur freshman Cadence Vincent set a state record in capturing the 50-yard freestyle on the final day of the state swim meet Friday at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center.
Vincent turned a time of 23.69. She also teamed with McKenzie Reynolds, Cameron Zuliani and Alayna Whitehair in winning the 200 freestyle relay with an effort of 1:42.39.
Vincent was runner-up in the 100 freestyle, Zuliani was third in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 50 freestyle, Whitehair fifth in the 100 breaststroke and 10th in the 200 IM and Jennifer Williams seventh in the 100 breaststroke.

As a team, B-U finished in fourth with 127 points. George Washington (206) took top honors, followed by Parkersburg (166), Wheeling Park (134), B-U and Morgantown (113) to round out the top five.

Elkins swam to a 13th-place showing with 22 points.
The Lady Tigers had two relays and one individual — Isabelle Judy — competing in Friday’s consolation races after finishing among the top 12 during Thursday’s preliminaries.
Judy was entered in the 100 butterfly consolation race after turning in an eight-place prelim time of 1:06.67.
The 200 medley relay of Kaleigh Edwards, Hannah Phillips, Judy and Ruby Jackson turned in a ninth-place prelim time of 2:07.06 on Thursday, while Phillips, Edwards, Addie Berdine and Judy were 11th in a qualifying time of 4:12.59 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Swimming in Thursday’s qualifying action for Philip Barbour was the 200 freestyle relay of Madison Weese, Angel Watson, Abagayle Auvil and Kaleigh Burnett. The unit had a 16th-place preliminary finish.
The B-U boys were led by freshman Preston Bennett’s third-place finish in the 500 freestyle and fourth-place effort in the 200 freestyle, while Sam Squires was fourth in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 100 freestyle.
The 200 medley relay of Squires, Bennett, Reis Leonard and Dane Ammons was ninth.
B-U finished 11th in the boys team standings with 52 points. George Washington won the team title with 180 points.
Bridgeport (172) was second, followed by Hurricane (120), Wheeling Park (101) and Huntington (100) to comprise the top five.
Competing for Elkins in Thursday’s prelims were Luke Anger in the 100 butterfly, Elijah Jones in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle relay of Austin Whetsell, Anger, Ivan Looney-Sanders and Tyler Ludwig and the 400 freestyle relay of Whetsell, Looney-Sanders, Rafael Caniello and Anger.
Anger had a qualifying time of 59.32. (15th) and Jones was 24th in both of his events, while the 200 freestyle was 17th and the 400 freestyle 14th.
The top 12 finishers from Thursday’s action advanced to Friday’s finals and consolation races.
