Threat found inside B-UHS

TENNERTON — A threat found on a bathroom wall at Buckhannon-Upshur High School Wednesday morning caused school officials and law enforcement to spring into action and resulted in a quick resolution.

“We had an issue with a student who made a threat on a bathroom wall,” principal Eddie Vincent said. “It was a threat made trying to get another student into trouble.”

Another student found the threat and reported it to the office between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m.

Vincent was out of the building at the time at an administrator’s meeting but praised the response of other high school administrators and law enforcement.

“When we found out about it, we decided to have a shelter-in-place drill,” Vincent said.

That means that students were kept inside their classrooms.

“Within 15 minutes we found out who the kid was and was able to make sure the building was safe and there was no issue with school safety,” he said. “There was never a real issue with a bomb. We are fortunate it was resolved so quickly.”

Vincent said the student was removed from the school after the incident.

Cpl. Rocky Hebb, the school’s prevention resource officer, was at the school at the time the threat was found.

Hebb said the number one priority was the safety of students and staff at the school and said that everyone worked together quickly to find the student involved.

Hebb will be working with the Upshur County Prosecuting Attorney’s office to discuss what may happen with the student from a judicial perspective.

Starting at $3.92/week.
