Barbour moves to orange
PHILIPPI — Barbour County has moved up the state’s COVID-19 color map and is now classified as orange, according to the state Department of Health & Human Resources.
Barbour County was one of only three counties in the state classified as orange on Wednesday, along with Kanawha and Boone.
Barbour had reported 49 active COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday.
Barbour County Schools have had no in-person classes this week, and the Philip Barbour High School football team’s game on Friday will not be played.
Thus far Barbour has had a total of 81 confirmed cases, and one death.
Tucker County
A Tucker County High School football player has tested positive for COVID-19, TCHS officials confirmed this week.
Head coach A.J. Rapp said he was informed of the case over the weekend. He said four other players are also being quarantined.
As a result of the confirmed case, the TCHS Mountain Lions will not play for the next two weeks, with their next game set for Oct. 16.
Rapp said the team is allowed to conduct outdoor practices in small groups during the two weeks.
Tucker County Schools was already operating with distance learning only through the end of next week. On Monday officials announced that three Tucker County Schools students and three employees had tested positive.
Upshur County
Upshur County is now classified as gold on the state’s color map.
Upshur had 25 active cases as of Wednesday, with a total of 87 confirmed cases and no deaths.
It was announced Tuesday that an Upshur County Schools student had tested positive for COVID-19.
