D&E takes opener
GLENVILLE — Brent McMillion scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings and Najay King belted a grand slam as the Davis & Elkins baseball team opened the season with an 8-0 win over Mansfield (Pa.) Friday at Glenville State.
Jordan Worley added four RBIs for the Senators, including a two-run homer and a two-run double.
McMillion struck out nine and walked just one.
Marcos Feria fanned five of the six batters he faced in two innings of relief work.
Bryce Zaparzynski took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in five innings. He struck out three and issued five passes.
D&E will remain in Glenville at 6 p.m. today to face Ohio Valley and No. 6 Mercyhurst at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

GLENVILLE – Honesty Holt cracked a three-rum homer and Ryn Boelter added a two-run shot as Davis & Elkins defeated Mercyhurst (Pa.), 9-4, in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at Glenville State.
The Lady Senators trailed 4-2 before Holt’s homer and an RBI single by Rhetta Persinger in the bottom of the fifth made it 6-4.
D&E tacked on three insurance runs an inning later.
Holt and Boelter each had three hits in the win.
Emma LeGendre had a pair of RBIs for Mercyhurst, while Allison Dejidas a solo homer.
Jenna Evans (2-0) worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
She didn’t allow a hit, while fanning five and walking two.
Cheyenne Hindman (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs on 11 hits in five innings. She struck out two and walked two.
The teams were slated to play the second game of the twin bill later on Friday.
