Young’s 41 points lift Pendleton over No. 1 Tucker girls

Tygarts Valley, Petersburg drop close contests

HAMBLETON — Ana Young fired in 41 points as Pendleton County knocked off Class A, No. 1 Tucker County 67-54 Tuesday night in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Young and Avery Townsend, who added 20 points, each hit six 3-pointers for the Lady Wildcats, who led 27-15 at halftime and 50-34 after three quarters.

“They made everything tonight and we couldn’t make a shot,” Lady Mountain Lions coach Dave Helmick said. “Ana Young is the best player in the state in my opinion.”

Kadie Colebank led Tucker County with 31 points and 16 rebounds. Avery Colebank and Brylee Wetzel added four assists apiece and Macy Helmick three helpers and two steals.

The Lady Mountain Lions (10-1) visit Pocahontas County on Friday night.

Pendleton County (5-2) ventures to East Hardy on Thursday for a PVC encounter.

BLACKSVILLE — Kenley Statler scored 30 points as Clay-Battelle held off a determined effort by Tygarts Valley, 49-44, on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs 37-30 after three quarters and outscored the Lady Cee Bees 14-12 in the final canto.

Summer Lewis-Smith bucketed 12 points and Sarah Defibaugh added 10 for Tygarts Valley, which visits Notre Dame this evening.

PETERSBURG — Class AAA, No. 9 Keyser rallied in the fourth quarter en route to a 53-49 win over Class AA, No. 9 Petersburg on Tuesday night.

Braylee Corbin had 14 points and Addison Kitzmiller 11 for the Lady Vikings, who led 37-35 after three quarters.

The game was tied at 26-26 at halftime.

Senior guard Averi Everline netted 17 and junior guard Kiara Kesner 10 for Keyser, which improved to 9-4 on the season and hosts Berkeley Springs on Friday night.

Petersburg (7-6)entertains Hampshire on Thursday night for its next contest.
