UC too much for Senators; ’Cats and Battlers drop MEC tilts
CHARLESTON — Eddie Colbert III fired in 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench to lead the University of Charleston to a 105-66 MEC win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday.
Tyler Eberhart added 18 points, CJ Meredith 14, Keith Williams and Keaton Turner 12 each and Shunta Wilson 10 for the Golden Eagles (17-7, 14-4 MEC).
Breland Walton was the lone player in double figures for the Senators with 15 points.
D&E (14-10, 8-10 MEC) remains on the road at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against Glenville State.

INSTITUTE — Miguel Martinez scored 21 points in West Virginia State’s 84-61 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday in MEC play.
Malik Whitaker, Dwaine Jones and Anthony Pittman all added 10 each for the Yellow Jackets (17-7, 11-7 MEC).
The Bobcats (2-22, 2-16) were paced by Anthony Craven Jr. with 20 points. Darius Green chipped in 16.
Wesleyan visits Concord at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Fairmont St. 94, AB 83
PHILIPPI — Fairmont State rallied in the second half to hand Alderson Broaddus a 94-83 setback Saturday in MEC play at Rex Pyles Arena.
Jon King fired in 25 points for the Battlers, who led 49-46 at halftime.
Zach Simpkins and Jalen Knott chipped in 16 points each and Sir Hughes tallied 10 markers.
George Mangas had 23, Isaiah Sanders 19, Zyon Dobbs 18 and David Jolinder 10 for the Falcons (19-6, 14-4 MEC).
AB (8-15, 6-12) entertains West Virginia State at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for another MEC contest.

Charleston 72, D&E 68
CHARLESTON — The University of Charleston rallied in the fourth quarter to hand Davis & Elkins a 72-68 loss Saturday in MEC action.
The Lady Senators (5-18, 5-13 MEC) trailed 40-37 at halftime before forging ahead, 55-54, after three quarters.
A jumper by Ellie Wilkerson to start the final frame treated D&E to a 57-54 advantage but the Lady Golden Eagles later took the lead for good at 61-59 on Abby Lee’s basket with 7:19 left in regulation.
Wilkerson led D&E with 21 points, followed by Taylor Smith and Madison Butler with 11 each.
Dakota Reeves fired in 25 points to lead UC (19-5, 14-4 MEC). Trinity Palacio chipped in 15 and Lee and Markyia McCormich 11 apiece.
D&E will travel to No. 7 Glenville State on Wednesday.

BUCKHANNON — Shelby Harmeyer had 23 points and Destiny Fields 22 to lead West Virginia State past West Virginia Wesleyan, 112-58, Saturday in MEC action.
Anysa Jordan added 18, Felesia Ondongo 11 and Alana Kramer 10 for the Lady Yellow Jackets (19-4, 14-4 MEC).
Emma Witt had 21 points and Daveona Hatchell 14 for the Lady Bobcats (4-18, 3-15 MEC).
Wesleyan is back in action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Concord for a MEC matchup.

PHILIPPI — Fairmont State used a strong second quarter to garner a 96-74 victory over Alderson Broaddus Saturday in MEC action at Rex Pyles Arena.
The Lady Battlers (5-18, 4-14 MEC) led 24-22 after the opening frame but were outscored, 23-4, in the second.
Amil Mitchell had 23 points, Iyahnna Williams 12, Alexis Moore 11 and Hannah Taylor 10 for AB, which hosts West Virginia State on Wednesday.
Alyssa DeAngelo was the scoring leader for the Lady Falcons (18-8, 12-6 MEC) with 24.
