Alderson Broaddus women drop contest

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The Alderson Broaddus women’s basketball team fell to Cedarville University, 80-64, on Thursday night.

AB jumped out to a 22-16 lead after a made 3-point shot from Madeline Moyer with 2:28 remaining in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets went on an 8-0 run to cap off the first, and head into the second quarter leading 24-22.

Down 63-50 early in the fourth quarter, the Battlers went on a 7-0 run capped off by a Yolanda Florido fastbreak layup assisted off a Simone Smith steal to make the score 63-57. The Battlers couldn’t get their deficit any closer than six points as the Yellow Jackets held on for the victory.

Danielle Franklin paced AB with 14 points, followed by Yolanda Florida with 11 points. Madeline Moyer added eight points and two assists for the Battlers. Both leading scorers on AB were bottled up for most of the game, with Jeana Weatherspoon and Yasmin Norman scoring four points each.

The Battlers will continue their road trip in the state of Ohio with a matchup against Tiffin at 5:30 p.m. today.
