15-year-old state tourney set to start
ELKINS — The Elkins 15-year-old All-Stars will play host to a pair of squads when state tournament competition gets underway today at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
Elkins will play the second contest today at 8 p.m. against the winner of the 5:30 p.m. opener between Huntington and Beckley.
Two games are scheduled for the double-elimination tournament on Saturday. The first matchup is set for 1 p.m., while Game 2 is set for 3:30 p.m. There will be a final game on Sunday at 11 a.m. if necessary.
“We always enjoy when other established Babe Ruth programs come to Elkins,” said Elkins Elks Babe Ruth President Brad Schumacher. “The boys who have competed against each other all year get to come together as a team and compete against quality teams in Beckley and Huntington.
“Also we get to show everyone our updates we made to the field this year. I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy some quality baseball.”
Elkins’ roster consists of Hunter Dudley, Paden Haney, Jayden Herron, Cody Cooper, Brandon Rossi, John Elmore, Kaleb Kennard, Hunter Shreve, Kyle Wyatt, Miles Hutzler, and Dylan Coberly.
“We have a good group of boys,” said Elkins Manager Jamie Rossi. “We have a good mixture of speed and power at the plate, and our pitching looks pretty good as well.”
